Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) predicts that there will be a number of countries in the Asian region that will become three new economic powers or super power economies.

“There will be three super power economies, namely India, China and Indonesia,” Jokowi said at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024, at the JCC, Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

He said, although Indonesia has the potential to become an economic super power, the former Solo mayor reminded that there are still many challenges that must be faced. For example, the economic slowdown to geopolitical tensions.

“The challenge we face is the global economic slowdown which is still at 2.7-2.8 percent. We should be grateful that Indonesia is still growing above 5 percent of its groot,” he explained.

According to him, Indonesia has great capital for economic growth which is maintained above 5 percent in the second quarter of 2024 and is still growing at 5.05 percent.

“We can continue inflation at 2-3 percent consumer confidence remains at an optimistic level of 124.4,” he explained.

Currently, Indonesia’s per capita income is USD5,060 and in the next five years is targeted to be above USD7,000. While the next 10 years are targeted above USD 9,000.

Therefore, said Jokowi, economic growth must be maintained above 5 percent, and can even reach 8 percent. With economic growth that can increase every year, it will accelerate Indonesia’s upgrade to a state.

Two policies that need to be boosted to achieve economic growth are downstreaming and digitalization.

“Digitalization, which is called a data center, is mandatory for us to have immediately. Second, data analytics will allow us to analyze numbers and others quickly. Also those related to digital infrastructure and those related to the digital payment system,” he concluded. (*)
